Torch-On Membrane Roofing
Torch-on membrane roofing is an ideal solution for both new construction and reroofing projects, especially for flat roofs and low-slope roofs. Known for its superior waterproofing and UV resistance, this system offers long-lasting protection. Below is a breakdown of the installation process and key components.
Installation Process
1. Fibreglass Base Sheet
The first layer in the system is the fibreglass base sheet, which is securely nailed to the roof deck using Simplex Nails (featuring a large washer head). This creates a strong foundation for the torch-on layers that follow.
2. Torch-On Base Sheet
The second layer is the torch-on base sheet, which is carefully torched down to bond with the fibreglass base sheet. This heat application forms a seamless, waterproof barrier, essential for flat roofing systems.
3. Torch-On Cap Sheet
The final layer is the torch-on cap sheet, torched onto the base sheet. This top layer is finished with a granular surface that protects the roof from ultraviolet (UV) light, extending the lifespan of your roof by minimizing wear and tear.
Key Roof Components
Birdhouse Vents
Our birdhouse vents help ventilate the roof space by allowing air to circulate through the rafters. This prevents moisture build-up and heat accumulation, which can lead to roof damage over time.
Plumbing Stacks
Plumbing stacks allow plumbing pipes to pass through the roof. These are sealed with plumbing stack flashings to ensure a waterproof connection, protecting your roof from leaks.
Roof Drains
We use high-quality copper roof drains that direct rainwater from the roof through the soffit (roof overhang) to downpipes. This system prevents water from pooling on the roof, ensuring efficient drainage.
Scupper Drains
In some cases, we install scupper drains, which direct water directly from the roof to downpipes, bypassing the soffit for a cleaner drainage solution.
Flashings and Finishing
B-Vent Flashing
Our B-vent flashing ensures that furnace and chimney pipes are securely sealed where they pass through the roof, preventing water from entering around these venting components.
Metal Flashings
We provide durable metal flashings made from 28-gauge pre-painted steel with a baked-enamel finish. These flashings are resistant to rust, ensuring long-lasting protection for your roof’s edges and vulnerable areas.
